Spirit of Antichrist

I. We are living in the “last time”.

A. The Greek phrase is escath hora = “last hour” – used of an indefinite period.

1. The study of eschatology (doctrines of last things) is derived from this phrase.

2. 1 Peter 1:5 --Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

3. Jude 1:18 -- How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

B. The more specific Greek is escath hemera = “last day” – used exclusively by John.

1. John 6:39-40 -- And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

2.  John 6:44 -- No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

3.  John 6:54 -- Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

4. John 11:24 -- Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

5. John 12:48 -- He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

6. This term appears to verify the final resurrection at – the last day.

II. There are now many antichrists – this is a sign that it is the “last time.” (1 John 2:18)

A. One identifying factor of an antichrist is that they left “us” (the church) – 1 John 2:19)

1. The Parable of the Sower speaks of those who withdraw.

a. Matthew 13:20-21-- But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
b. Luke 8:13 -- They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

2. Jude 1:19 -- These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

3. Hebrews 10:39 -- But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

B. The false teachers and false prophets come from within the Church.

1. 2 Peter 2:1 -- But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2. Matthew 7:15 -- Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

3. Acts 20:29-30 -- For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.  Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

4. 2 Corinthians 11:12-15 -- For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.  And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works

5. Galatians 2:4 -- And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:

6. Philippians 3:18-19 -- For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.

7. 1 Timothy 4:1-2 -- Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

8. Jude 1:4 -- For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

III. The truth is given to the Twice-Born through the “unction” of the Holy Spirit.

A. The Holy Spirit seals the Twice-Born child of God.

1. Ephesians 1:13 -- In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise

2. Ephesians 4:30 -- And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

B. The Holy Spirit dwells within the Twice-Born child of God.

1. 1 Corinthians 3:16 -- Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

2. 2 Corinthians 6:16 -- And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
