Our Spiritual Blessings in Christ

I. God has blessed us with all SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS.

A. We are CHOSEN (Ephesians 1:4)

1. Chosen from the beginning (2 Thessalonians 2:13)

2. Chosen according to God’s foreknowledge (1 Peter 1:2)

3. Chosen to show His praises (1 Peter 1:9)

B. We are PREDESTINATED (Ephesians 1:5)

1. Predestinated according to His purpose (Ephesians 1:11)

2. Predestinated to be conformed to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29).

C. We are ACCEPTED in the Beloved (Ephesians 1:6)

1. Accepted by means of Redemption (Ephesians 1:7)

2. Accepted because our sins are forgiven (1 John 1:9-10)

II. God has ABOUNDED toward us – Ephesians 1:8

A. We are given WISDOM and PRUDENCE.

1. Wisdom is accurate knowledge focused into practical truth.

a. Wisdom is obedience to the Scriptures.
1) Deuteronomy 4:1-6 -- “keep and do them”
2) Proverbs 4:5-7 – “wisdom is the principle thing”
b. Wisdom is fully contained in Christ (Colossians 2:3)
c. Man’s wisdom and God’s wisdom are not the same 
1) 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, 10-15 – “man’s wisdom”
2) James 3:15-17 – “earthly wisdom”

2. Prudence is the ability to develop activities based on wisdom.

a. Wisdom “dwells with prudence” (Proverbs 8:12)
b. Bezaleel and Aholiab were “wise-hearted” (Exodus 36:1)
c. Solomon was “endued with prudence” (2 Chronicles 2:12).

B. We are made to know the MYSTERY OF HIS WILL.

1. There are many “mysteries” of God – some revealed, some not.

a. The mystery of the Kingdom of God (Matthew 4:11)
b. The mystery of the rapture (1 Corinthians 15:51)
c. The mystery of the indwelling Christ (Colossians 1:27)
d. The mystery of the Gospel (Ephesians 6:19)
e. The mystery of the faith (1 Timothy 3:9)

2. This mystery now revealed is specified in Ephesians 1:10.

a. “That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:”
b. The completed “Assembly and Church of the Firstborn” (Hebrews 12:23).

3. The “secret” to knowing God’s will is our willingness to do His will (John 7:17)

4. The Lord desires that we “be filled with the knowledge of His will” (Colossians 1:9)

C. We are granted an INHERITANCE – Ephesians 1:11

1. The inheritance is reserved in heaven for us (1 Peter 1:4)

a. We are joint-heirs with Jesus Christ (Romans 8:17)
b. We are kept and preserved by Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:5)

2. The inheritance is beyond our ability to understand (1 Corinthians 2:9; 2 Corinthians 12:4)

D. We are SEALED with the Holy Spirit - Ephesians 1:13

1. The activity is further amplified (2 Corinthians 1:21-22)

a. We are “confirmed” in everything (1 Corinthians 1:4-8)
b. We are “anointed” with identity (1 John 2:27)
c. We are “sealed” as a down payment (2 Corinthians 5:5)

2. The Holy Spirit also provides personal benefits for us.

a. He brings conviction to us (John 16:7-11)
b. He teaches us (John 14:17, 26; 15:26)
c. He grants us gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12)
